Corporate Finance, in a nut shell is the effective management of the monetary support of any enterprise. It deals with the financial decisions of the company whereby providing enough tools and analysis for the organization to make strong financial decisions. This is not that simple as it is explained. This forms the base of any corporate organization for it to manage its financial resources and markets. This report critically analyses Pepsi Co.s financial structure, ratios analysis, risk portfolio, and a comparative view of its leverage against its competitors. Further it details down an extensive analysis of its debt rating qualitatively and quantitatively. An excellent and a challenging scenario which puts me as an analyst to explore every inch of Pepsi Co.s financial statements and to provide necessary suggestions and recommendations regarding for it to maintain its investment grade debt rating. An understanding of the firms current position and the reasons behind every individual value of the exhibits are defined and critically evaluated. Background: PepsiCo is an American Multinational Company, who has been in the game for more than a century by now. It manufactures and markets over a dozen different products stretching out in the international market. It has got 3 majo r business units further broken down into 6 reportable segments across the globe. In the year 1965 Pepsi-Cola Company merged with Frito-Lays and formed PepsiCo. From then it had an amazing average compound annual growth rate ACAGR of about 15%, whereby the sales doubling up every 5 years. It has been a normal practice for generations, but is now the subject for international controversy on the morality and safety of this procedure. It is now known that 82 percent of Sudanese woman have an extreme form of genital mutilation done on them, normally at a young age. This form of mutilation is called the Pharaonic form and includes the total removal of the clitoris and labia, and stitching together of the vulva, leaving only a small hole for urination and menstrual cycle. This is normally done without any type of anaesthetic or professional medical care. There is also a more moderate form of mutilation, called Sunni, where only the covering of the clitoris is removed. This practice started and became tradition in foreign countries in or der to ensure that women practice chaste behavior, and to suppress female sexuality. It has also been attributed to religious beliefs of monogamy although most religions do not support this type of practice. In todays society it has become more of a traditional and social norm, and has less to do with religious beliefs. This problem is not only in Sudan; it is practiced in the majority of the continent of Africa as well as other countries. In other cultures, such as Australian aborigines, genital mutilation is a part of the rite of passage into maturation, and is done on both men and women (Bodley, p. 58). FGM has often been referred to as female circumcision and compared to male circumcision. However, such comparison is often misleading. Both practices include the removal of well- functioning parts of the genitalia and are quite unnecessary. However, FGM is far more drastic and damaging than male circumcision because it is extremely dangerous and painful. It is believed that two th irds of these procedures are done by untrained birth attendants, who have little knowledge of health. They are often unconcerned with hygiene, and many use instruments that are not cleaned or disinfected properly. Instruments such as razor blades, scissors, kitchen knives, and pieces of glass are commonly used. These instruments are frequently used on several girls in succession and are rarely cleaned, causing the transmission of a variety of viruses such as the HIV virus, and other infections. There are many side effects of this procedure including trauma, stress or shock from the extreme pain; and bleeding, hemorrhaging and infections that can be fatal from improperly cleaned instruments. There can also be painful and difficult sexual relations and obstructed childbirth. The effects of this one procedure can last a lifetime, both physically and pyschologically. Today, 85 to 114 million girls and women in more than 30 countries have been subjected to some form of genital mutilation . It was declared illegal in Sudan in 1941, although that did little to stop this age-old tradition. To this day, about 90% of women are still being subjected to the mutilation, especially if it is a family tradition. In various cultures there are many justifications for these practices. Many older women feel that if they have an uncircumcised daughter, she will not be able to find a husband and will become a social outcast. Family honor, cleanliness, protection against spells, insurance of virginity and faithfulness to the husband, or simply terrorizing women out of sex are sometimes used as excuses for the practice of FGM. Examples similar to this are found in other cultures, such as the Maasai, an African cattle peoples tribe. A clitoridectomy is performed on adolescent girls in this tribe as part of their rite of passage, and signifies that they are ready for marriage. This practice is openly accepted by these women as another ritual and a normal precondition of marriage (Bodley , p. 121). The efforts to stop procedures of this kind are mounting though, especially with the help of women ages 16 to 30 who realize the dangers of this practice. These women can help to save their daughters and many other women from this if they are educated of the dangers. Some doctors believe and act upon the idea that excision does not prevent sexual pleasure but enhances it. On the United States level, and in other places around the world, there are finally numerous efforts being made in order to abolish this practice both locally and internationally. This altering or processing of foods had made them more addictive. Moss examines how the corporations use that addiction to their advantage, however Moss fails to touch on why this processing works. We will explore how these processed foods affect the human body by looking at environmental factors, the learned response or addiction to foods, the emotional state of eating and finally how obesity prevents weight loss. In order to understand how the human body is affected by processed foods we must first examine how environmental factors can affect our eating habits. The issue of environmental influences is important because we must understand how the world around us affects our food choices. Moss touches on the most basic environmental factor associated with food consumption , the advertising used by large corporations. Advertising and marketing is a well-studied field and is used to target specific audiences to purchase products . What was not explored however, is when this advertising is used to target young children. Just watch any Saturday morning cartoon and you will be inundated with commercials for high sugar cereals marketed by cartoon characters touting how great the cereal is or how cool you will be by eating it. Pomeranz explores this adverting to children in depth in "Television Food Marketing To Children Revisited: The Federal Trade Com mission Has The Constitutional And Statutory Authority To Regulate ." Her research shows that children exposed to advertising eat more of these foods than children who have not been exposed to such advertising. In describing her research she state, " Because the vast majority of food marketed to children is unhealthy, the net effect is that children are developing poor nutrition-related beliefs and behaviors as a result of their exposure to such communication" (Pomeranz, 99). This is important because young children under the age of 12 or 13 are most vulnerable to this advertising . She further explains that , "Marketing practices directed at a vulnerable population creates the condition that the intended listener is being misled. Since studies show that young children cannot comprehend the persuasive intent of marketing' and tend to accept commercial claims and appeals as truthful and accurate" (Pomeranz, 03). This quote helps to understand how adverting inf luences the food choices being made by young children . Advertising is only one factor in the environment that affects our purchasing of processed foods and in turn becoming more obese. Americans are only exposed to such adverting because of the changes in modern life. David R Seamon, a professor at the National University of Health Sciences , studied how weight gain is a consequence of living that modern lifestyle . I describing this research he said, "the modern lifestyle is associated with several behavioral factors that facilitate weight gain, such as eating too quickly, a lack of sleep, high stress levels and a lack of physical activity" (Seaman, 28). A Medium of Spirituality?

In most cases of media-oriented or group worship traditions, there are many different factors to consider such as the rhetorical methods and its implications and the mode in which these worship practices are addressed in the different traditions. Thus, the formation of such religious and worship practices come into context with the prevailing method of communications, especially in our modern context – the media.There are numerous facets of media and communications today that even spirituality attempts to plant itself on these kind of communicative phenomena. As such, a specific worship experience, perhaps commonly prevalent today, is through the television. These religious shows are mostly based on the reading and interpretation of passages from the bible through some authoritative assumptions and conclusions.In his book, A History of Christian Spirituality, Urban Holmes categorizes the different modes of spirituality and worship traditions through a combination of four quadr ants of a ‘circle of sensibility.’ The north polar end of the diagram is categorized as the rational or cognitive pole.The south polar of the same line is the emotional or affective side. The east and west is categorized as kataphatic (for speech) and apophatic (against speech), respectively. Thus, through the combination of these four different areas, we may find some mode of spirituality categorized as kataphatic-cognitive, apophatic-affective, among others. As such, the different traditions of worship are categorized whether it appeals to the emotions, the intellect, or the preference for written/oral traditions or not.An example of these different modes of spirituality or worship is through television shows that provide an interpretation of the scripture.These bible-oriented interpretative shows are then categorized, according to Holmes, on the speculative-kataphatic or cognitive-kataphatic. Since most readings require interpretation during these sessions, then most spirituality expressed in these is through a interpretative method coupled with some consideration with an intellectual understanding. Also, the methods in which these lectures are addressed are also taken into consideration since varying methods of rhetorical delivery may also affect such theological understanding.For example, a bible show that presents an argument on the goodness of God then meticulously chooses passages from the bible to support the argument (intellectual), and the interpreter then presents his or her own views regarding the subject matter. There are of course a number of speech methods that ultimately affect the interpretation of the viewers themselves as it appeals to an emotional construct of the person.The method of inquiry through interpretation may be too diverse to explain whether such interpretations affect the intellectual or emotional aspect. In terms of spirituality, these newer methods of theological proclamation then posit two problems: first is the authenticity of the spirituality produced conveyed through a non-personal approach (e.g. television instead of live or ‘practical’ worship practices). Second is the affectivity of such methods compared to a more personal understanding of theological ideologies. We must first then consider the authenticity of such spirituality in the given circumstance.Through television, the information conveyed by the scripture(s) becomes somehow stratified through a selective process of theological topics instead of a diverse and explorative manner of topic discussion. These shows are not wholly aimed for the purpose of elevating spiritual consciousness but rather, just like any other television program, are much more concerned on viewer ratings and the advantages to other competitions similar to that of the program.Thus, authenticity of the spirituality espoused in these shows is in question. Can these shows provide the same level of spirituality as that of a normative worship pract ice? In some way, the affectivity of these may cause some further theological discussion involving the scriptural context that appeals the intellect. However, it cannot be said that these shows are a main tenet of producing spirituality in such a way that these kinds of discussions are carefully structured in order to gain more viewers instead of gaining more theological understanding.
